Philly Phundamentals
For September 2026’s Philly Phundamentals webinar, the Pham explored how to experience and enjoy Philadelphia’s great outdoors, from its parks and gardens to its waterfronts and community green spaces.
Moderated by Patrick Morgan, Project Director at The Pew Charitable Trusts, the webinar featured a panel of Philadelphia outdoor and community leaders who shared how their organizations create opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with the city’s green spaces, waterfronts, and natural environment.
JJ Tiziou, Founder & Facilitator of Walk Around Philadelphia, discussed the experience of exploring Philadelphia by walking its 100-plus-mile perimeter. He highlighted how the walks encourage participants to discover the city’s neighborhoods, waterways, and lesser-known spaces while building connections across communities.
Ty Holmberg, Co-Founder and Co-Director of Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden, spoke about Bartram’s Garden as a place to connect with land, food, water, and community. He highlighted the garden’s opportunities for farming, biking, boating, education, volunteering, and cultural programming.
Erika Joy Erb, Vice President of Marketing & Communications at the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, explored the many ways to enjoy Philadelphia’s waterfront, including its trails, parks, and free programming. She also discussed upcoming projects that will expand access to the waterfront, including Penn’s Landing Park.
Throughout the conversation, panelists reflected on the many ways Philadelphia’s outdoor spaces bring people together and create opportunities for exploration, recreation, and connection. From walking the city’s edges to visiting community gardens and waterfront parks, they encouraged Phambassadors to explore these spaces and help visitors discover Philadelphia’s great outdoors throughout the fall and beyond.
